Mysql .BAK Dateien manuell löschen um Diskfull zu vermeiden

Hallo
weil es keine Platz mehr auf Disk gab, hat heute einer der unseren Server nicht funktioniert. Diskfull-Error habe ich später per E-Mail bekommen. Lange musste ich nach Grund suchen. Endlich habe ich unter /var/lib/mysql/meinedbname die Ursachen gefunden. Es gab über 50 .BAK Dateien die mehr als 30 GB Platz gekostet haben.

.BAK Dateien werden automatisch von MySQL erstellt aber anscheinend nicht gelöscht. Ich habe die Dateien mit Hilfe von "rm -vf *.BAK" gelöscht. Alles funktioniert.

Meine Frage ist: gibt es Risiken von Löschen der .BAK Dateien?
Kann man automatische .BAK-Dateien-Erstellung verhindern?

Nicht alle .BAK Dateien löschen sondern nur die ältere. Sonst kann man Probleme bekommen, wenn Table-Crash gibt und Mysql es reparieren versucht.
