Wie genau funktioniert der YUI Compressor?

Hallo ITlantik Gemeinde.

Mir wurde von einem Freund geraten meine, vor kurzem entwickelte, Webseite von dem Google PageSpeed Insights Validator überprüfen zu lassen. Welch eine sehr gute Idee war. Mir wurde von Google geraten meine Dateien zu kompromieren und das mittels des YUI Compressor. So wie ich sehe, geht dass nur über die Konsole.
Hat einer von euch schonmal Erfahrung mit dem YUI Compressor gemacht und wie funktioniert das?
Wäre euch sehr dankbar, wenn ihr mir hilfreiche Informationen geben könntet. Das Prinzip klingt sehr interessant aber ich weiß nicht wie ich es anwenden soll.
